Chapter 2: Linked at the Dip
The Chinese ambassador to Caryaland received a dispatch from from the foreign office. “The Caryaland government has decided to recognize Taiwan as an independent nation. Go and find out why, and advise them we are not happy about it”.
Ambassador Chow Yun Dip finished reading the dispatch and spoke to the caddy. “Pull up the golf cart. I have to go to work”. As he rode back to the club house he reflected on how he was a member of the only golf club in Caryanland. It was strange that no prominent citizens of Caryanland.
At the State Department of Caryanland, Chow Yun Dip met with Minister Miller. “What is this about your nation recognizing Taiwan as an Independent nation? That violates the One China policy”.
“We do not recognize the One China police. That is a contrivance between your nation and the United States. China is not Taiwan. Taiwan is not China. We will accept embassies from both nations.” Said Minister Miller.
Ambassador Chow Yun Dip was about to threaten to expel the Caryland embassy in China but then remembered Caryanland had no embassy in China. “I have been authorized to withdrawal the Chinese embassy to Caryanland if you do not reconsider this decision.”
“ Our decision is final. If you want to withdraw your embassy that is up to you”. Chow Yun Dip was very upset! He was not getting what he wanted! He decided to return to the lounge at the Golf Club.
While there he noticed the American Ambassador to Caryanland, Derek Abramoff. “Ambassador Abramoff, would you care to join me?”
Abramoff settled at Chow Yun Dips’s table. After exchanging pleasantries Abramoff got to the point. “We do not Caryanland recognizing Taiwan as an independent nation because they are not doing it under the aegis of U.S. leadership.”
Together they tried to figure out how to do their jobs prominently enough to advance their careers. Discussing it casually yet earnestly over a round of golf and three martinis and some Cuban cigars. You could tell they were serious because they kept the digital radio stream of ESPN to a low volume and had dismissed their caddy, a Caryanlander.
